Background:

Hetta Institute for International Development (HIID) is a USA-based professional educational corporation specializing in human capacity building. The Institute specializes in helping the mid and senior-level executives, particularly those from the developing countries, to upgrade their skills. HIID was founded in 2001 and registered with Arizona Corporation Commission, Phoenix, Arizona, USA. Hetta Institute for International Development is also registered with the New Jersey Department of the Treasury Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services. Course Description:

The Internet is the most widely used information technology that has really changed the way we conduct business. Over three billion people use the Internet every day. Through the Internet, millions of people share information, enjoy some entertainment, conduct research, communicate via social media, read their favorite newspapers, trade data files, and electronically conduct businesses at local or at international level. The objective of this course is not only to train Internet beginners how to use the Internet but to encourage them not to miss out or be left behind in the information technology.

Course Learning Objectives:

The purpose of this course is to provide the participants with the skill and knowledge as a beginning user of the Internet. At the end of this, course the participants should be able to access the World Wide Web, send and receive e-mails, and to perform their jobs more efficiently.

The course is delivered via the Internet and facilitated by seasoned professional instructors with practical experience. The course takes 2 weeks to complete. Key areas of study include the following:
  • Basic computer knowledge for beginners: language, the Internet, concepts, and definitions.
  • Getting started with Internet Explorer: program commands, tools, etc.
  • Rules for sending electronic mails
  • Browsing the World Wide Web pages for research, information, news, entertainment, etc.
  • The search engines
  • Common computer programs, applications, and their functions
  • Computer Lab assignments
  • Practical exercises
  • A brand new computer laptop to take home
  • Site visits

Learning Outcome:

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:
  • Have a good understanding of how a computer works.
  • Perform Internet and web- related tasks.
  • Use a Web browser.
  • Send and receive e-mails.
  • Search and access online information.

Learning Methodology:

This training is with emphasis on hands-on application. PowerPoint presentations will feature well in the workshops. Participants will spend most of their time in the computer lab.

This course is designed for senior civil servants and senior officials in the private and nonprofit sectors who are not familiar with the use of the computer but are interested in acquiring new skills in information technology to increase their competencies in communication.
