Background:

Hetta Institute for International Development (HIID) is a USA-based professional educational corporation specializing in human capacity building. The Institute specializes in helping the mid and senior-level executives, particularly those from the developing countries, to upgrade their skills. Course Description:

Some of the major development issues in the oil and gas producing communities include socioeconomic, human rights, financial, political, and environmental challenges. While there is a growing demand for energy consumption in the world, about one-third of the world’s population, mostly in developing countries, has no access to modern forms of energy. Do the oil corporations play any positive role in transforming the oil/gas producing communities into sustainable development with quality education, gainful employment, opportunity to start businesses, and improving quality of life? Unfortunately, the socioeconomic needs of the oil/gas producing communities may be far too large than the corporate social responsibilities the oil/gas companies can address.

The principal goal of this course is to acquaint participants with a thorough understanding of the development issues involved in the oil and gas industry and what sustainable solutions are available to resolve some of the problems. The purpose of the course is also to enhance, empower, and strengthen participants’ skills to manage local resources and to perform effectively and efficiently their official duties.

Course Learning Objectives:

The objective of this course is to show the participants that the issue of sustainable development can no longer remain a low priority in the oil/gas producing communities and the oil/gas companies that work in those communities. Participants will be guided through the various issues involved, introducing them to some of the well-defined strategies for conflict resolutions, project development, and management through case studies and the lessons learned.

The course is delivered in a workshop setting facilitated by seasoned professional facilitators with practical experience. One session will be devoted to site visits to relevant institutions.

Learning Outcome:

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

Learning Methodology:

The course is delivered in a workshop setting facilitated by seasoned professional facilitators with practical experience. Active participation is required and key to the success of the workshops. Other teaching methods used in this course may include classroom lectures, practical demonstrations, case studies, problem-solving exercises, worksheets, research group works, presentations, and video shows. No tests or examinations will be taken by participants in this course but assessment of student’s performance will be measured through effective and quality class participation, group presentations, group projects, and class attendance. This course combines presentations, lectures, class discussions, group presentation, and problem-solving exercises.
