This course, with emphasis on application, combines the expertise of Hetta International Development Center’s team with the theoretical knowledge of leading professionals to cover the most up-to-date ideas, approaches, and strategies in the field of development management. Participants will be given ample opportunity to share experiences and will be encouraged to speculate upon the most plausible solutions for, and approaches to their own development situations. Case studies of some of the best practices in development management across the globe will be highlighted.

This training course is specifically designed for senior-level staff in private, public, and development professions and it focuses on current thinking and best practices in development and management.

Course Learning Objectives:
At the end of the course, participants should be able to understand better the concepts of development, sustainable development, economic growth, development management, best practices, pros and cons of the millennium development goals, labor productivity, poverty alleviation strategies, etc. The course will go in-depth into the Millennium Development Goals, progress made on them, and what remains to be done. Participants will also study sustainable development, particularly with regard to sustainable urbanization, and the role of gender in development.

Learning Outcome:
Upon completion of this course, participants will be empowered to think critically about:

  • Important concepts in development and how to use them to formulate effective development policies.
  • Policy issues about development and poverty reduction.
  • Labor productivity, its importance for the improved quality of life, and challenges to increase the productivity of labor.
  • Dealing with the challenges of urbanizations that accompanies increases in labor productivity.
  • Increasing labor productivity by including women in the economic life of the country
  • A better understanding of the millennium development goals, pros, and con.

Learning Methodology:
The course is delivered in a workshop setting facilitated by seasoned professional facilitators with practical experience. Active participation is required and key to the success of the workshops. Other methods used in this course include case studies and problem-solving exercises. Assessment of participant’s performance will be measured through effective class participation, group presentation, group projects, and class attendance. This course combines presentations, lectures, class discussions, group presentation, and problem-solving exercises.

Course Fees
The course fee is $5, 500 for 2 weeks. The course fee covers the following: instruction, course materials, one brand new laptop computer to take home, administration expenses, field trips, cultural programs and miscellaneous program-related expenses.
